CPD REQUIREMENTS FOR SISV VGP MEMBERSHIP

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is a common requirement for professional institutions to ensure members are up to date on the latest laws, regulations, technology and market conditions. This is all the more urgent given the accelerated pace of change across local and international markets, and the much discussed impact of AI on professional work.

Section XXI of SISV’s bylaws stipulate that all members must clock at least 20 CPDhours every year. Non-compliance can render a member liable for suspension.

SISV is simplifying and revising its CPD regime to offer a wider range of options to help members comply with the annual 20 hour requirement. These options are as follows:

1. Besides the usual SISV run programs on real estate, the revised CPD curriculum will include topics that are beyond real estate and are useful to members for their own personal growth and business expansion. These include topics such as branding, managing teams, leadership, data protection, business development & networking skills, etc.

2. SISV will also organise learning trips to relevant sites (such as advanced manufacturing facilities or specific adaptive reuse projects) plus potentially overseas study trips (to say China to see the state of their AI adoption)

3. Members will have the opportunity to take courses on adjacent disciplines like urban planning, project management, etc. from allied institutions like Urban Land Institute (ULI), Singapore Institute of Planners (SIP), NUS Cities, and Singapore Institute of Estate Agents (SIEA). VGP will not prescribe specific professional bodies for which this option can apply beyond those named above. Members availing themselves of this option can self declare and upload the relevant documents (i.e. certificate of participation showing name, course, date, course provider) onto the CPD portal. Such programs can account for up to four(4) CPD hours each year. The assignment of such CPD hours for members will be at the discretion of SISV, but generally speaking, on an equivalent CPD basis, i.e. same as that prescribed by the organiser for their members

4. Members can also take courses in more fields of general knowledge and professional self improvement such as AI, finance, negotiations, etc. This is predicated on the basis that real estate practice is increasingly shaped not just by specific real estate factors such as market conditions, but by technology (think agentic AI), global trade (think tariffs), climate change (think sustainability 2reporting), etc. We want members to become acquainted with these “macro” issues and improve their own set of soft skills. VGP will also take a liberal approach to recognition of such programs but cap this option at four (4) hours. The mapping will be two hours of the external course for every hour of CPD. Members can self declare the courses they take by submitting proof of attendance showing the course title, course provider, date and time onto the SISV’s CPD portal.

5. We will also allow members additional flexibility to undertake a range of knowledge enhancement pursuits such as writing a book or research report that requires a measure of active investigation, data collection, etc. Or to present a paper at a conference on a real estate related topic, etc. Members can specify the hours they wish to declare but this will be capped at two (2) CPD hours.
