Objectives

Q: Why should I apply for CEHA?

A: All house agencies in Singapore need to be licensed. The licensing authority for house agencies is the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore. The minimum requirement to apply for a house agency licence is the CEHA certificate or its equivalent.

Registrations

Pre-Requisites

Q: What qualifications do I need to apply for CEHA?

A: You need at least 3 General Certificate of Education (GCE) 'Ordinary' Level credits in one sitting or its equivalent. You must also be at least 21 years old at the time of registration.

Exemption

Q: If I am a tertiary education graduate, am I still required to possess a CEHA certificate in order to apply for a House Agent's license?

A: The IRAS accepts the following relevant tertiary degrees or professional qualifications in lieu of the CEHA certificate:

  1. BSc (Real Estate) degree from National University of Singapore;

  2. Certificate of successful Passed from previously recognised courses such as the Real Estate Agency Course (REAC) organised by the Singapore Institute of Surveyors and Valuers (SISV) up to batch 12/95 or the Realtors Course organised by the then Association of Singapore Realtors (ASR) up to batch 38/1995.

Examination fees

Q: How much is the Examination fee and what does it cover?

A: The fees are S$300.00 + GST for new candidates and S$180.00 + GST for 1 paper and $220 + GST for 2 papers for Re-Examination candidates. Re-Examination candidates are those who have passed at least one out of the three Papers during their first attempt.

Registration for New Candidates

Q: How do I register for the Common Examination?
A:
  1. You could get a copy of the Registration Form by clicking here. Fill up the Form and send it together with your cheque/cashier order and relevant educational documents to the CEHA Secretariat by post. No on-line registration is available for applicants of a new Examination as verification of the education documents is required.

  2. Alternatively, you may wish to get the Registration Form from the office of the CEHA Secretariat at 20 Maxwell Road, #10-09B Maxwell House. Please send your completed Form together with payment and all relevant documents, directly back to the CEHA Secretariat or through the Institute of Estate Agents (IEA) who will then forward them to the CEHA Secretariat for processing.


 Registration for Re-Examination Candidates

Q: Who can register for the Re-Examination?

A: With effect from 1 January 2006, new candidates attempting 3 (three) papers in January 2006 are given a 2-year period from the date of release of results of their first attempt on 3 (three) examination papers to retake their failed paper(s). Candidates must register for both papers if they failed 2 (two) papers from their attempt of the examination.

Question Paper Format

Q: What are the topics covered in the Examination?

A: The Common Examination comprises three Papers covering the following core subjects with a total of 20 topics that are held on three consecutive days.

Paper 1 – Law of Real Property

Paper 2 – Real Estate Marketing

Paper 3 – Professional Practice and Management

Examination Format

Q: What is the format of the Examination?

A:
  1. The Examination comprises three papers, each of 2 ½ hours in duration. To get a pass in CEHA, you are required to pass all three papers;
  2. Each paper comprises six (6) essay questions and two (2) multiple choice questions. You are required to answer five (5) out of eight (8) questions;
  3. Any candidate who is unsuccessful in all three papers may apply again to take the Examination as a new candidate if he meets the pre-requisites of the Examination at that point of time (see Exam Schedule).

Passing Mark

Q: What is the passing mark for the Examination?

A: The passing mark for each of the three papers is 50%. To get a Certificate in CEHA, you are required to pass all three papers in one sitting.

Examination Schedule

Q: How often is the Examination held?

A: In the year of 1999 and 2000, the Common Examinations are conducted four times a year in the months of January, April, July and October (see Exam Schedule).

Q: What is the language for the Examination?

A: The Examination is conducted in English. 

Others

Q: What is the connection between SISV and CEHA?

A: Since the implementation of CEHA, SISV has been appointed the Secretariat for CEHA. In its role as the CEHA Secretariat and under the direction of the Board of Examiners for CEHA, SISV is responsible for all administrative and logistical matters pertaining to the Examination.
